The Gharri Ward is a historic landmark from the 19th century, reflecting the enduring heritage of British colonial rule and the architectural legacy of Mayo Hospital. Although it no longer accommodates inpatients, the ward remains a symbolic reminder of the hospital’s rich history, with its empty hallways, staircases, and galleries now connecting to other active units and wards within the hospital. In line with its commitment to preserving this architectural building, Friends of Mayo Hospital took the initiative to refurbish the ward, carefully decorating it while ensuring the original structure and historical essence are maintained.
